§ 82-6. Notice to owner of seized dog.

If the dog seized bears a license tag or other identification, the Animal Control Officer of the Town of Oyster Bay or an officer or representative of the Village shall ascertain the owner of the dog and shall give immediate notice by either personally serving on or mailing by first-class and certified mail, return receipt requested, to such owner or an adult member of his/her family, a written notice stating that the dog has been seized and will be sold or otherwise disposed of unless redeemed within the period provided in § 82-7 hereof. If the dog seized does not bear such identification, the Animal Control Officer or officer or representative of the Village shall make a reasonable effort to identify and give such notice to the owner of the dog. An unlicensed dog may be put up for adoption or destroyed in accordance with the rules and procedures of the Town of Oyster Bay Animal Shelter without any notice to its owner.
